My husband was at.Nexus from 5/4/2022 to 6/17/2022 for acute care and rehab due to a stroke on 4/12/2022. We had a good experience with the Doctors and Nurses overall. However, Nursing staff was spread thin from too many patients in my opinion. Food was excellent and everybody was so nice and caring.
Excellent rehab with Doreen and Jordan.

Overall, this was a very poor experience from management and a few nurses. There were several nurses that were great including one of the Dr's. Everything starts of great as things usually do, but like the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Bed sore that wasn't cared for until too late, constantly having to tell a few of the nurses that his monitors were going off, feeding tube coming dislodged a couple times causing infections, his rectal catheter coming dislodged and him covered in his own feces, and numerous other things that you would think to be highly attentive over a stroke patient. Toward the end of our grandfather's fight he coded one night and no one said anything to us and when we called to check on him at night, we were told he was good and sleeping. Our grandmother was escorted off the premises by police while the love of her life for 60 years was dieing because she didn't want to leave his side and couldn't trust Nexus. Choose wisely for the sake of your loved ones care.

My Pawpaw had a stroke on November 17, 2021. After a lengthy hospital stay in the Houston med center, we told he would need specialized care. Nexus Specialty Hospital in Shenandoah, TX was the facility we chose, but as a family we all came to regret that decision. The doctors and most of the nursing staff was excellent. My Pawpaw was a very sick man, and around 3:30am one morning, he nearly coded. My Memaw arrived at 10am when visiting hours started, and walked into his hospital room full of nurses. She then found out the severity of his condition, and questioned WHY no one called her. The reason we were gave on multiple occasions was because the nurse had been "too busy" to call. That's a 6 hour time span that no one called! The nursing manager told her she could stay overnight, no problem. She stayed with him all day, and at 8pm was told she needed to leave because visiting hours were over. She expressed her concern with leaving, because his condition was critical, and no one had called her to tell her he almost coded that morning. She also told them she had permission to stay. The police were called and she was ultimately escorted out of the facility. She's 76 years old with serious heart issues of her own, and was so beside herself that we were all concerned for her health as well! We were then told that we were all barred from the facility, pending an investigation by the administration there. We had to contact Texas Right To Life attorneys to gain access to our beloved family patriarch. In the time we weren't allowed to be with him, we called to check on his condition several times a day. The nurses weren't very forthcoming with info and gave the bare minimum. After we regained access to visit, the administration would only allow ONE family member per day to visit him. He was eventually placed in hospice care. The day came that we all had to say our goodbyes, and instead of respecting our time left with my Pawpaw, one of the hospital administrators stood in the hallway, watching us and talking to the charge nurse. We weren't allowed to go into his room as a family. Instead, we had to just go in four people at a time to say our goodbyes. Even near death, my Pawpaw was not given the peace and dignity to be surrounded by family. If you're looking for a facility with compassion and consideration, I BEG you to look elsewhere. You won't find what you're looking for here.

After my grandpa had a stroke, we chose this place for his recovery. The nursing staff are mostly great if you don’t count the one who lied to us, and about my family. I wouldn’t put my least favorite dog into the care of these people after our experience here. Please choose somewhere else to place your loved one.

My family actually chose Nexus for my dad after he suffered a stroke. At 1st we were excited about his care but things went downhill fast. The nursing staff and the doctors are great. We did get the feeling from the nursing staff that it was not a great place to work with current management. I have to agree. Management is HORRIBLE. They do not care about a patient's family. We helped with the care of my dad and even helped calm him when procedures were performed. After an incident where my dad's health declined and no one called my family we became fearful for his care. My mother did not want to leave him after visiting hours ended and asked for more time. She was worried that something would happen again and dad would be alone and might not make it. She was escorted out by police. There is no regard for family and how a family might feel in these situation.. We had been told that in the past other families had been allowed to stay over. From this point on my family could only have one family visitor a day. On the day that my dad was dying the CCO was in the hall speaking to a charge nurse about my family as we rotated in to say our goodbyes. I will never think of this place positively and will tell families to avoid bringing their loved ones here
If I could give it a negative number it could not be low enough due to management. Changes need to be made.

I had an experience there in two different ways. My son was taken very good care of with the exception of two nurses specifically. I had a wonderful experience at the facility. I was instrumental in selecting and suggesting the facility after his hospitalization due to the confidence in care that I was a part of prior to his admission. I never judge a facility by individuals who give the care. Caring for a patient comes from a heart of someone who loves people and is giving the care for more than a pay check.
