A disappointing display of scientific gatekeeping
As someone who follows emerging astrophysical research, I’m genuinely disappointed in arXiv’s decision to reject Dr. Beatriz Villarroel and Dr. Stephen Bruehl’s recent peer-reviewed paper on historical sky anomalies dismissing it as “not of interest.”
This work applied standard astronomical methods to archived sky-survey data and found statistically significant correlations worth investigating further. Regardless of whether one agrees with the interpretation, it clearly meets the criteria of legitimate scientific inquiry.
arXiv was founded at Los Alamos and is now managed by Cornell, institutions built on curiosity and open inquiry. Yet this rejection shows that the platform has become more about protecting reputations than fostering discovery. “Not of interest” is not a scientific argument, it’s a convenient way to silence research that challenges established narratives.
