I saw dr john in 2021 as a scared 19 year old being screened for ovarian cysts. she was very rough with my examintation, to the point that i bucked off the exam table in PAIN.
she proceeds to pull her hand out and tell me shortly it was 'probably cancer', ordered a CT scan, and left me to get dressed.
This was not a diagnosis, and i believe she said this out of frustration to scare me because it says in my file she was unable to get a clear view due to 'discomfort'.
when my mother called upset on my behalf, they used medical jargon to confuse her and get her to apologize because dr john technically did not diagnose me, she just mentioned the possibility
but i dont think roughly handling a teenagers genitalia, scaring them with a possible diagnosis and leaving them to hyperventilate until a nurse came to comfort them is the best bedside manner, and would not reccomend dr john to anyone not used to being treated roughly at the gyno

I don’t typically leave reviews but I needed to share this.
I had a very disappointing experience with Dr.Elcy John. I have been diagnosed with PCOS by multiple doctors in the past, yet Dr. John dismissed my diagnosis solely because I am not overweight and do not have facial hair—despite the fact that PCOS presents differently in many patients. She did not order any blood work, imaging, or an ultrasound, nor did she investigate my medical history further before concluding I did not have PCOS.
Throughout the appointment, she repeatedly corrected my wording instead of listening to my concerns, which felt dismissive and unproductive. Her only recommendation was birth control, and when I expressed distress and became emotional, she showed no empathy or reassurance. Instead, she stated that if I wasn’t satisfied with her assessment, my only other option was to stop birth control and undergo a D&C.
I left the appointment feeling unheard, invalidated, and unsupported. I would not recommend this provider to patients seeking compassionate care or a thorough, evidence-based approach especially for PCOS.

Worse experience of my life! Never experienced blatant racism. For starters I received a call the day before asking me to come early to my appointment scheduled at 11:00am and to be there at 10:30am. When I arrived at 10:30am (early before my appointment) I walked to the front desk and the receptionist was very unpleasant. I’m new to this place so she asked for my insurance card and ID she said I’m getting the paperwork ready and closed the glass. It’s now 11:00 and she hands me the paperwork! My first question is why am I arriving 30min early if I’m not filling out paperwork within that time? NOT filling out paperwork at the time of my appointment.. moving forward, I filled the papers out and handed it back to them. 11:30am comes and there’s been 3 people that came after me that was called BEFORE me so at this point I’m fed up, so I walk to the front desk and ask when will I be getting seen the receptionist replies and says “I’m waiting to hear back from the insurance” I said wasn’t that done a month ago when I made the appointment? What are you waiting to hear back from the insurance? She keeps replying “information” .. I said what information? I can call the insurance company if that’ll help. She said no. I called the insurance company to ensure she was really waiting for “information” the insurance rep said “there was no information being requested and that all the doctors office needs is SSN, group ID and name of insurance” and asked me if there was a problem she’d help me find a new doctor in my network! To top it all off I read my paperwork very clearly and thee was one sheet that stood out to me. Where it asks for permission for Dr. Rojas to record or take pictures of you for research purposes. Not only is this place racist it’s disgusting!

I do not recommend her if you have PCOS. She told me that I have PCOS because I am overweight and that if I lose weight then I won’t have it. PCOS is a hormonal disease NOT due to weight gain and it makes you insulin resistant - so it is not easy to lose weight. She did not know anything about the new research of ozempic for PCOS patients (she just said it’s only for diabetes patients) and did not offer bloodwork to check hormone levels. Also, the blinds were slightly open in the freezing room while I had my pelvic exam (talk about uncomfortable).

I don’t usually write reviews but I hope this can help someone looking for an OBGYN for their 1st pregnancy to not go through what I went through.
I do not recommend Dr. John Elcy, especially for your 1st pregnancy. I started seeing her at 14 weeks because other OBGYN I wanted were already booked up so I had to get in with anyone I could which was my mistake. But as all first pregnancy it is new and a learning experience.
Since my first appointment to my 30th week of pregnancy Dr. John never asked if I planned on having a natural birth (which I’ve been told from other women that have been pregnant that that is one of the first conversations you have) We’ve actually have had no conversation about anything about my pregnancy and as a my first time pregnancy I did not know what to expect in the beginning. But after weeks of appointments and me doing lots of my own research and even learning more things on TikTok than I do going into see her, I tried finding another OBGYN but I couldn’t get past the front desk of any of them because they said I am too far along around 25 weeks.
The most information Dr. John has provided to me is about the glucose test which she kept pushing even though she said she does not think I have gestational diabetes because most women are larger if they have it. And she specifically sent me to another doctor because my baby is smaller than most. I asked if I could take an alternative drink such as the fresh test and she said no that the glucose drink was my only option besides monitoring my glucose with the machine. When I said I’d do the glucose monitoring she sent my prescription to a pharmacy on Westfield when my pharmacy is in The Woodlands so when I came into my next and last appointment with her. I asked her about the risks of having gestational diabetes now that I’m 30 weeks and haven’t done it and her answer in short was “like the baby could die” and I do have that on recording since my fiancé and mom couldn’t go with me to this appointment. Which was also the last time I went in to see her.
My pregnancy has been very easy but the thought of seeing Dr. John gave me anxiety and stress and knowing that I have not had any other issues during my pregnancy I couldn’t continue to put stress and anxiety on me and my baby.
I’ve currently been seeing the high risk doctors that she sent me to every week because my baby is small but they may no longer be able to see me because I don’t have a OBGYN on file. So at 34 weeks now I may be left with no care for the rest of my pregnancy.
Long story short. Find an OB that you like early on before it’s too late to switch. Despite all the other good reviews my only thought is she treats every patient differently and sadly I cannot relate and do not recommend Dr. John.

Absolutely horrid office staff, and now I'm not confident in the doctor either. I was just obviously lied to. I had an appointment at 11, I called before 11 because they don't tell you which medical office building they're in so I had to figure it out on my own. I called to let them know I was coming but might be five minutes late and they told me I had to reschedule. They don't give you a second's grace period apparently. I go in anyway, and then I'm told the doctor was resting up for a surgery. Yeah, right. I'm over health professionals who obviously don't care about their patients. Don't waste your time. Needless to say, I won't be rescheduling with her. I'll find a doctor who wants to be a doctor.

Her staff members are VERY Inefficient! Every time I have walked in the office I have had to fill out the new patient paperwork due to it being lost! Today was the last straw when I sat in the waiting area for over and hr and finally went to ask what taking so long?! I wasn't checked in, and was told the dr was delivering a baby, common curtesy would be to tell me from the beginning so I'm not waiting..the lack of communication is astounding!I wouldn't recommend anyone to this office at all. Stand clear from this office !!
