My experience at Patients ER was unfortunately overshadowed by the physician assistant, Hilari Berklund, who treated me. As a nurse practitioner myself, I understand that patients often have questions, concerns, and preferences regarding their care. While providers may not always agree with a patient’s request, there is a professional and respectful way to communicate those decisions.

From the moment Hilari entered the room, I was met with an attitude that made me feel unwelcome. As she explained her treatment plan, I respectfully stated that I would prefer to have a CT scan for my own peace of mind and began explaining my reasoning. Throughout the conversation, I felt as though I was being looked down on, as if my concerns were unintelligent or not worth hearing. After I finished speaking, she simply replied, “Okay,” and immediately walked out of the room. The interaction left me feeling dismissed and disrespected.

As a fellow healthcare provider, I found this level of bedside manner incredibly disappointing. Clinical judgment and patient-centered communication are not mutually exclusive. A provider can decline a patient’s request while still making that patient feel heard and respected. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.

I sincerely hope Patients ER values patient satisfaction and professionalism. If a provider consistently interacted with patients in this manner at the hospital where I practice, it would be addressed immediately. I am sharing this experience in the hope that no future patient leaves feeling as unheard, disrespected, and uncomfortable as I did.

Changed my review from 5 stars to 1 star after being treated horribly by staff & doctors on two separate occasions where I had confirmed broken bones. X-ray confirmed broken bones and they gave me Toradol (which is an NSAID) and I cannot take NSAID medication due to having kidney failure. I was in tears both times and treated like I was exaggerating my injuries. They are not even able to treat a broken bone so I’m not sure why they would advertise as a “hospital”. I wouldn’t trust them with anything other than maybe a paper cut and that’s being generous. Nurses and doctors do absolutely nothing to help make you feel comfortable during a moment of crisis. If I could give 0 stars then I would!! You’re better off waiting 7+ hours at an actual hospital with trained nurses and doctors.

Been going to patients since last year and it's gone downhill these last few months. I've been treated like I'm only searching for pain meds, treated with a condescending attitude by multiple different doctors and even ultrasound techs, making my pain feel like it isn't "that bad". I WOULDN'T BE GOING TO A FREESTANDING ER IF MY PAIN WASN'T BAD. I have severe endometriosis and pcos so I get cysts alot. Well tonight I went for back pain wasn't even seen by a provider for nearly 2 hours. No nurse checked on me nothing. The providers are disrespectful and treat you as if you are addicts. I live 30 mins away from Baytown Methodist I used to love coming to patients because of the Dr's and everybody but now I'm so hurt and truly shocked by their behavior and poor patient care. I said my pain was at a 9, told them I fell on my back and landed on concrete twice on my back. No tests run just shots offered made me feel like I was a waste of a bed and time. I bawled my eyes out to my husband at the treatment. This is unacceptable. If you have good insurance be patient and go somewhere else. They don't care about you at all. You're wasting your time and money on a place with zero care policy. These issues keep getting worse. This place isn't worth it.
Update a week a half later still no call to even resolve this issue.

My family has always loved going to Patients ER. They even found a spot on my lungs years ago. However in the last 7 months service has been lacking. My husband went for pain twice. He was running a high fever which had went down after his shower before going. He left with pain medication and muscle relaxers. He died less than a month after that with bacterial infection in his blood.
I went this last week, (I had gone a month ago due to a fall on my head), due to waking up 2 mornings in a row with swollen eyes/face. I left with pain medication and no answers. The doctor sat with a smirky look on his arrogant face and said that he didn't see a problem. He wrote an RX for pain medication before getting the CT results. He treated me like I was ONLY there to get pain medication. I do not even take them! Dr Buford came in and treated me respectful. After waiting about 30 minutes for discharge papers I asked the nurse (with red hair) if I was free to go and she got snarky with me. In a condescending tone, I was told she couldn't stop me from leaving.
I sure hope they get it together because it has always been a great place to be taken care of. Dr Short needs a lesson on not being so short with patients. People come there to get better not to be just offered pain medication! Do Better Patient's ER!

I have been a long-time patient of Patient’s ER and, until recently, have always received excellent care. I’ve never had a single complaint and have referred many family members and friends there over the years.

Unfortunately, my last two visits have been extremely disappointing and alarming. I was misdiagnosed twice, and the compassion and level of care I had come to expect were simply not there.

During my most recent visit, one particular nurse, Tara, was completely unprofessional and her behavior was unacceptable. While attempting to start my IV, she was rough and dismissive, not listening to my concerns. She ended up forcefully yanking my IV out and stormed out of the room. Thankfully, the other nurses stepped in and properly bandaged my arm and provided appropriate care, as she did not.

My biggest concern, however, was the misdiagnosis regarding my hemoglobin levels. I was told my hemoglobin was 7.8. However, just 3½ hours later, after being transferred to St. Luke’s, my hemoglobin was critically low at 5.5. That was not a minor discrepancy, it is a severe and potentially life-threatening difference. This raises serious questions about the accuracy of testing and overall patient safety. That level of discrepancy is extremely alarming and has completely shaken my confidence in this ER.

I no longer have confidence in this ER’s ability to provide safe, competent care. What was once a facility I highly recommended is now one I cannot trust. Based on these experiences, I have lost trust in this facility and will think very carefully before ever returning.

Several years ago my wife brought our 13 year old daughter there for evaluation due to feeling bad with high fever (no life threatening symptoms). They treated her and then promptly sent me a bill for over $6,000. Their six page front and back itemization of services was full of acronyms & medical jargon to the point it could not be understood outside of a medical professional. Some of the tests run were done without my wife's knowledge and consent including an unnecessary 'pregnancy test'. My discussions with them were met with indifference, denial and rudeness. No offers to review the bill, they just kept repeating "well what did you expect? we can't tell you ahead of time what the cost is going to be". I wouldn't advise anyone to go there for anything. Unprofessional and unethical conduct from start to finish by multiple personnel.

Was highly dissatisfied. Went about a year ago for food poisoning and the provider refused to believe i had food poisoning and was insistent that I had a stomach bug. Was referred to patients again yesterday for my daughter, wait time was VERY long but under stand the time of year etc. When we were finally called back we spent approximately 10 to 20 minutes before ever being seen, then the provider only listen to half of the information. Was told ivs and nausea medicine was being ordered....30 minutes went by before I followed up at the nurses station. One of the nurses tone was rude and uncalled for when he let me know the order was just put in. My daughter has now thrown up again and is so dehydrated they had a hard time sticking the iv. Absolutely ridiculous and the worse experience I've had there. Also, they sent my daughters prescription to the wrong pharmacy after confirming where I wanted her prescription to go.

I have been here several times with my kids and never EVER had any problems until I brought my husband Tuesday night. I brought him in due to severe abdominal pain and pain in his groin. They brought him back and immediately started his ultrasound and gave him medicine. The medicine didn’t help, but that wasn’t the problem. We sat there for 5 hours and left with no answers. After being there for 3 hours they gave him more pain medicine which did help, and then did a CT scan. When the doctor came in to talk to us he gave us no answers and even told my husband “I’m not saying it’s in your head” after he expressed the amount of pain he was in and we both expressed our concern with his symptoms. He was VERY rude and didn’t seem to care at all. We will never go back there again.

I have been using Patients since they open and I’ve been a returning patient since I can remember, after this morning I will not be using them anymore. Look, I get the whole state law issues with pain medicine, but when you are in so much pain (from a prostatectomy) and all you want is a clarification on a mix up of meds that were said to have been called in that weren’t only to be ridiculed and to be made to feel as a junky off the streets, it’s time to move on and find an ER with a little more compassion. The doctor I spoke to this morning has the worst way of speaking to a patient that is only trying to figure out a mixup from last nights shift. I get it, it wasn’t her who made the mix up but it should have been just as easy as that and fixed the issue not being spoken to the way she did. I have been to the emergency room 3 times since my prostatectomy for my pain because it is like something I have never experienced and you would think a doctor would understand that and try their best to minimize that in any form, she had that opportunity and failed miserably. I hate this because I love Nurse Jerry, me and that man had the greatest conversation of going through the same procedure and I’ll miss being able to have a chance to have more of those with him as I will not be using this ER anymore. To the owner or management of this ER, if you have a patient that is in so much pain that not even two different doses of
Dilaudid did absolutely nothing then that should tell professional la something. If you (patients er) can see that then it should be your duty help your patient find something or someone who can so we can all move forward amicably. From MD Anderson who did my surgery to Patients they have failed me and all of makes me feel as if it’s one big money making scheme. “We can’t give you this for your excruciating pain, but you can definitely come here as many times as you want for a quick “relief” of the pain, but don’t dare ask for anything to take home because you will be made to feel like a terrible person. This location needs better patient advocacy training, well at least the doctor from this morning. Jerry, I’m definitely going to miss any future conversations we could have had.

To add, I went ahead and canceled anything they called me in. You want me to manage it out on my own, you got it. It’s better than the alternative of being made to feel as a junky.

If you are a patient with severe pain, stay away from this place. If you’re a patient wanting simple explanations of mixups, stay away from this ER. I swear I remember them being the absolute best ER, I drove a good ways because of it. No more. Thanks for hearing my rant.
