The Fifth Avenue Committee has been organizing the tenants in my building since June and meeting with us on a regular basis. They have been incredibly helpful and are addressing the major issues that tenants here have been dealing with. I'm so glad that I found them and were able to bring them to our tenants' meeting.

Fifth Ave Committee (FAC) is a positive organization that has helped the community and low income individuals/families. They offer many programs and services to aid the unemployed as well as the low income house holds. For more information about the services they provide, schedule an appointment (Preferred, better in person) or call the hotline.

Where is your conscience? Is it all about the money to your company? Here you have a resident shop keeper TABEEL Aromatherapy Gifts and Salon who has been a great tenant never had any issues with her as a tenant in twenty years and this is the level of courteousy you give her. A thirty day notice, no conversation, no personal visit, silence.... How can you be a company who says they support small businesses and At the first opportunity to put more money in your pocket you are willing to throw her out. You claim it is for low income housing improvements, well where was your offer to her to relocate her store temporarily until the reconstruction was done. It never happened. You may print in the Park Slopes News that this is what your intentions were. But we know the truth and you should be ashamed of your self as a company's and as every individual who works for your organization. The community speaks and you will hear us!

FAC - destroying the communities it's supposed to strengthen
Its the culturally diverse and eclectic businesses that make Brooklyn's 5th Ave attractive to the new consumer based brought by the Barclays Center. Unfortunately, the FAC lacks true economical understanding and is currently seeking to evict 2 of the community's longest standing businesses. Businesses which have demonstrated innovation, community enrichment, and added to the neighborhood's attractiveness.
Contrary to their mission statement, the FAC seeks to further hide health, social, economic and environmental impacts. The FAC boasts that it "strive[s] to include members of our community in our work regardless of race, class, age, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, physical and mental ability, immigration status or criminal history". By evicting these businesses, they are working against their own mission statement.
Community members, we call for you to band together to prevent this social and economical injustice.

Why is it that the 2 oldest Black owned businesses, on 5th Ave, Brooklyn, is being targeted for closure? Tabeel has served the community well, many satisfied customers . Is it right to not give store owners the opportunity, to be told what they're dealing with, so there's opportunity for situations to be rectified?

I find It hard to understand how if part of your commitment is to "lease primarily to small, minority and/or women owned businesses," you could so callously try to oust two longstanding Black-female owned businesses. This seems in direct contradiction to your mission, as well as a disservice to the community you claim to serve.

It is very clear that you have forgotten or completely betrayed your mission. The disrespectful manner in which you have treated the last two Black owned businesses on Fifth Avenue, shows that you have now become an agent of gentrification. We demand that you reverse this process and allow Tabeel and the other Black business to continue the great work they do.

It is my understanding that your organization is in the process of evicting two business owned by Black women. I find that this action, by your organization, is in direct contradiction to its mission statement. If the mission of your organization had changed, why wasn't the community notified. It is time that your organization explain themselves and answer to the community for this eviction of 2 businesses that have been viable and integral in the community for 20 years. So, FAC what say you? You get NO STARS, but I must give you one to post this review.

It has come to our attention that your so called "non-profit" organization is trying to evict to 2 Oldest tennants on 5 ave. Witch by way, are the ONLY Black owned/Women owned businesses in the neighborhood.

This is a neighborhood social service nonprofit agency that offers multiple services to the community. They offer everything from home buying seminars, job search assistance as well as help with SNAP applications.
The staff is professional and friendly. Very necessary community resource.
