The meal deals at the SOAS shop are the most expensive ones. Paying £5.25 for a meal deal that only includes crisps, with no fruit or snack bars, feels poor value and encourages unhealthy choices. I have been told this may improve next year following my feedback, but for now the options remain disappointing.
What made matters worse was the confusing and inconsistent pricing at the till. On one occasion, I was incorrectly told that only Coca-Cola could be included in the meal deal, even though water was also eligible. On another occasion, I was charged £5.90 for another type of meal deal that was actually priced at £4.90 because the Students' Union had apparently not updated the till system correctly. These repeated mistakes make shopping unnecessarily confusing.
I want to stress that the lady who manages the shop and handles orders is always kind, helpful, and accommodating, and she has consistently been pleasant to deal with. My criticism is not aimed at her, but at the Students' Union and the poor management of pricing and till settings.
