Overall, I’ve had positive experiences at the clinic, and I appreciate the care I receive. Some of the staff members are very chill, friendly, and easy to talk to, which makes visits more comfortable. However, a few others come across as somewhat overly confident or distant in how they carry themselves, even arrogant which can feel a bit intimidating or less welcoming at times, especially if you are on Masshealth.

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and disregard for patient time at AP Dental.
My husband and I had appointments scheduled for today. Knowing we did not want new X-rays, I called the office this morning to explicitly explain this. I even went through the effort of having our recent (one year ago) X-rays from our previous dentist sent over to their office ahead of time. The person I spoke with on the phone did not mention any issues with this.
However, after driving all the way to the office, we were told they would not perform a cleaning or exam unless we agreed to new X-rays. They refused treatment over X-rays.
If it is a firm office policy that they do not accept transferred X-rays for new patients, that should have been clearly communicated when I called this morning. Instead, my time was wasted, and I drove there for absolutely nothing. A little transparency over the phone would have saved everyone a lot of frustration. I will be looking for a different practice that values communication, respects their patients' schedules, and honors a patient’s right to make informed decisions about their own care. If a patient provides recent records and expresses a preference to avoid unnecessary imaging, a provider should be willing to work with them rather than turning them away at the door.

Hello Mikayla, Thank you for your feedback. We take both clinical standards and the patient experience seriously.

For all new patients, our providers require current diagnostic records to ensure a thorough and safe evaluation. The X-rays received were over one year old, and after review by our dentist and both hygienists, it was determined that a limited set of updated images, such as bitewings, would be necessary to proceed with a dental cleaning and baseline dental exam. This is a standard clinical requirement when establishing care.

While we aim to communicate expectations clearly in advance, it is evident there was a lapse in communication prior to your visit. This is being addressed internally to ensure greater consistency moving forward.

Our approach is to balance patient preferences with appropriate clinical protocols. In this instance, proceeding without updated diagnostics was not an option. Should you wish to discuss this further, we remain available to connect directly.

Respectfully,
AP Dental Dracut
