We stayed at this hotel this past weekend while in town due to a family emergency, and unfortunately, our experience left us really disappointed.
There are definitely some positives. The location inside the Galleria is convenient, and the free parking (at the mall) is a big perk. For families, the standard king room worked well for us—the pull-out couch comfortably fit our three kids, which is not always easy to find. We loved being able to walk into the mall easily.
That said, there are several downsides. The room only has a small fridge, and there is just one microwave in the entire hotel, which is inconvenient for families. The pool was especially disappointing—it’s located on what feels like an empty rooftop, requiring a walk across the roof and then stairs to access it. We’ve honestly had much nicer pool setups at lower-end hotels.
Our biggest issue, though, was the lack of transparency and poor communication around the “resort fee” benefits.
When we checked in late Thursday night, the front desk explained that the resort fee included ice skating passes, an illusion experience, and a $30 dining credit. Because we spent most of our trip at the hospital Friday, we planned to use those perks on our checkout day. After ice skating, I went to confirm how to use the dining credit and was then told it only applied to the night of our stay—something that was never mentioned at check-in and not clearly stated anywhere. We got there late Thursday night and the restaurant was already closed.
The employee I spoke with said she remembered checking us in and told us she would honor the $30 dining credit that day. She instructed us to charge our meal to the room and let the front desk know when we returned and they would take care of it.
However, when we followed those instructions, another employee (Yvette) refused to honor it. She stated that not only was the credit not valid that day, but it also required two separate transactions to use—again, something that had never been communicated to us. She was dismissive and unwilling to help, despite us explaining exactly what we had been told earlier.
At the end of the day, this wasn’t about the $30—it was about the inconsistent information and lack of accountability. We made decisions based on what hotel staff told us, only to be met with resistance and poor customer service.
We actually had plans to return next month, but this experience completely changed our minds. It’s disappointing that something so small and so easily fixable resulted in losing repeat guests.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are truly sorry that your stay fell short of expectations, especially during such a difficult time for your family. While we’re glad the location, parking convenience, and room layout worked well for your family, we regret the confusion and frustration surrounding the resort fee benefits. Your comments have been shared with our leadership team. We appreciate you acknowledging the positive aspects of your stay and thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention.

We had to SmartStay for NCA Nationals with this hotel. Our flight arrived at 6:45am and we were so exhausted so we decided to just stop by and see if any rooms were open. The guy at the front desk was very compassionate to our situation and moved some things around so we could check in early. He literally walked up to the room himself to make sure everything was ready. This kindness and hospitality was endless with him! The lady doing the breakfast was like the mother of the crew, making sure our children were taken care of! This staff went above and beyond (imo) for our family and it was exactly what we needed!
The rooms were quite small and shower water was lukewarm at best but quickly overlooked due to the phenomenal staff!
Wonderful hotel, clean, welcoming especially our Breakfast Hostess Brenda. Always a pleasure to see her shining face. Brenda's breakfast was delicious and she made the hotel feel like home. Will miss seeing Miss Brenda, she the best.
One of the best experiences we ever had loved it feel like I was on vacation. Prices were very reasonable, very clean, establishment organized, and great customer service.
Booked through Hotel Collection, and we are Bonvoy Gold Elite members. The TV did not work from the time we checked in, and the engineer to fix it came the next day at 315pm (to the wrong room), after we moved rooms. We moved rooms, due to the shower not closing properly, resulting in water going everywhere, including the room. Despite the TV not working, shower leaking, they did absolutely 0 to make up for these issues and us switching rooms. The room they transferred us to, was right next to the older one, but the phone button to call the front desk did not work.
At checkout, a $100 credit was not applied (was corrected), and we were charged for breakfast that to be included as part of the room package (also corrected).
Overall, very disappointed about how there was absolutely nothing done to make up for the multiple issues, and required room switching. Due to the lack of room upkeep, I suggest staying elsewhere - we will the next time we are in Houston.

This is an older property -- possibly a former apartment complex.
The current management is doing their best by providing tidy rooms, crisp clean linens & a decent breakfast.
That said, I cannot stress too much the this is an OLDER property. Rooms are accessed directly from the parking lot or exterior stairs & walkways. Rooms are NOT accessible directly from the front desk by way of a nice, indoor hallway.
Now, with all that said, if you're Ok with an old motel vibe, then I recommend you try this place as it offers a great location & very good value!!
IF, HOWEVER, you want a modern, plush hotel, then stay away!
Me? Yeah, I'd stay there again.

Our stay was good !
But I have noticed quite few things throughout the hotel!
Elevator was not well maintained and it was not clean.
And in our room in general was not very fresh ,bathroom was not clean.
carpet in the studio was kinda stinky and not clean.
The location was very convenient for me but I probably not going there again.

This hotel has the most incompetent employees I have ever had to deal with! I travel for work regularly and use Marriot Hotels most of the time. This one by far has been the worst experience I have ever had! Do NOT recommend this particular Residence Inn at all! Stay anywhere else.
