0 Stars. The front desk never picks up the phone. When confronted about it in person they're rude and act like it's your fault, that you've dialed the wrong number, and that they always answer. They're so incompetent I've had to call the nurse line and make a complaint. The nurse line can't even get them to pick up nor can the VA help desk. I've made complaints about this multiple times and the dental office will call me back weeks later after filing the complaints.. It shouldn't come to this to receive treatment. This is not how Veterans should be treated!

Dentist sprayed cold water on an exposed tooth and didn’t care about the pain he caused. How dare I have dental coverage.

I called the Va dental clinic on Thursday 29th 2026 and Friday 30th 2026 They never answer the phone the rang almost 30 minutes before someone answered THE MSA’s are rude won’t let you talk they talk over the VETERAN they are belligerent the Doctors are also horrible at referrals for outside community care services they try and intimidate bully veterans to come to this horrible clinic to get care for there Dental needs they make you wait until the pain level is so excruciating to fix any dental work instead of being proactive and fixing the problem before it gets to that level OMG I have panic attacks when I call this clinic. No one should feel intimidated or threaten to get the care that they need from the Michael E Debakey VA Hospital dental care clinic. Listen VETERANS START HOLDING THE PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS PEOPLE ONLY TREAT YOU THIS BECAUSE YOU ALLOW THEM TO DO SO LETS START SPEAKING OUT I’ve been dealing with this clinic for years they have left me in tears the way treat it’s a constant fight arguing with me I have CHF CONGESTIVE Heart FAILURE I’M sick and tired of fighting with the dental staff over my care this is Ludacris

Been trying for several days to reach someone to get referral. Wait at least an hour each time I’ve called. I can’t be on phone waiting for someone to decide to answer for these long periods of time. This is really deterring and can see why a lot of veterans just give up or just do not want to deal with the VA.

Dear Esteemed Veterans and Dental Comrades,
If you're in the market for a dental experience that doubles as a test of your patience and a throwback to the era when snail mail was faster than customer service, then the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center Dental Clinic is your utopia.
First off, let's talk about appointment scheduling – it's like playing a game of "Where's Waldo?" but with dates. With a modest six-month waiting period, you have ample time to reflect on your life choices, grow a magnificent beard (even if you're unable to), or learn a new language. It's the perfect opportunity to embrace the art of waiting.
Attempting to reschedule? The department's phone is akin to a mythical creature - often talked about, but never seen (or heard, in this case). It's a masterclass in playing hard-to-get, and let me tell you, they are winning.
Now, let's waltz over to the front desk - where time and efficiency go to enjoy a long, leisurely vacation. The staff there, bless their hearts, have transformed the mundane task of patient interaction into a rare event, much like a solar eclipse. Instead, they focus on the more critical task of dissecting the latest gossip. Their dedication to not answering the phone while exploring the depths of their cell phones is truly commendable. It's like watching live performance art where the theme is "The Evolution of Procrastination."
During my time there, I often wondered if I had accidentally walked onto the set of a sitcom where the punchline is always "Not today, patient!" But no, it was real life, just flavored with a hint of existential dread and a sprinkle of dark humor.
In conclusion, if you're seeking a dental clinic that defies the boundaries of time and customer service, look no further. The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center Dental Clinic is a place where dreams (and occasionally, teeth) may not be fulfilled, but hey, at least it's never dull. One star due to the fact that if you are lucky enough to not need much in the way of care, you might be ok with this level of service.
Yours in eternal waiting,
A Patient Patient
